Snoring can be very bothersome to our family, especially if we are on a relationship with someone. They have to stand long nights of snoring and over time this can cause some trouble.  On the other hand, snoring can also be a sign of an underlying condition that restricts the passage of air.  Finding a solution for our snoring problems is definitely a win-win situation.

Nowadays you can find varied methods that can help you get rid of snoring, they range from simple changes in lifestyle and posture, to surgery. Let’s take a look at them:

Weight loss – In some cases, snoring is caused because there is fatty tissue preventing the air to flow freely, thus, losing weight can be pretty effective in these cases.  Small changes can have a huge impact.

Changing sleeping positions – When you sleep on your side, you reduce the chances of snoring, and it has served as on of top snoring cures for thousands of people. Other changes in the way you sleep include elevating the head of the bed a few inches and sleeping without a pillow.

Avoiding alcohol, certain food and medications – Certain things you intake can lead to excessive relaxation of the muscles. This increases the chances of snoring. Certain food can cause you to produce mucus which also is bad if you want to stop snoring problems.

Sing! – This is a rather new alternative treatment for snoring. This works by giving strength and control to your muscles in the throat and the soft palate.

Surgery – This is a more aggressive treatment for snoring problems. Among the surgeries that open up your airways are Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), Thermal Ablation Palatoplasty (TAP), tonsillectomy, and adenoidectomy. They free up space that lets you breathe better during the nights. There is also a new surgical procedure called “palatal implantation” in which thanks to a plastic implant you stop the vibrations that cause snoring. Surgery solutions are expensive.

CPAP Machines – These are machines designed to keep your airway open during your sleep.  This is not used on your common case of snoring; rather it is employed with patients that suffer a more serious related condition, such as sleep apnea.

As you can see you can try most of these snoring solutions at home without having to invest money.  By making this change you will ensure that you have no problems in the future.
